A Story About Addison
Once upon a time in a far away land called Paddywhack Pond, there lived a mama rabbit named Katie Babbitt. One day, Katie Babbitt had a baby boy bunny, and she called him Addison and loved him with all her heart. When Addison was still just a little bunny, Katie Babbitt gathered together all the assorted patches of fabric stashed in this corner and that, in this cubby hole and that. When she had all the fabric patches collected in a big pile, she set about fitting them together, which was much like assembling a puzzle due to the various sizes and shapes. Katie Babbitt then stitched and stitched and stitched until her pink eyes were bleary and her little fingers were too tired to stitch anymore. The fruit of her labor was a big, warm quilt for her baby boy bunny. When Katie Babbitt gave the cozy quilt to Addison, he was so touched by his mama's effort that his eyes glistened with plump tears that spilled out and ran down his furry cheeks. He proudly declared that he had the very best mama ever!
Well, not too long after Katie Babbitt made the quilt for Addison, she passed on into Hare Heaven, and little Addison missed his mama something fierce. As the years went by and Addison grew into a rabbit, the one thing that never changed was that he always carried the quilt his mama made everywhere he went. As you can imagine, being dragged and toted to every imaginable place, the quilt became somewhat tattered over time. This was really quite appropriate, however, because Addison also always looked a bit disheveled since he had to care for himself after his mama went to Heaven. It inevitably came to pass that Addison was given the nickname "the Tattered Rabbit" by his furry friends due not only to his own rumpled appearance, but also the increasingly tattered condition of his quilt, which was never ever out of his reach.
The Tattered Rabbit is now a wise (albeit tousled) rabbit. To this day, he still keeps a small scrap of the quilt with him at all times, hidden deep in his pocket to always remind him of his mama. The rest of the quilt, which is now threadbare and scarcely held together at the seams, is proudly displayed in the Tattered Rabbit's home for all to see his mama's love. Of late, the Tattered Rabbit began to think that perhaps other mamas out there (and possibly even papas!) would also like to make quilts for their baby bunnies or other loved ones. Hence, this website came into being. And of course, he just had to call it "The Tattered Rabbit", in honor of his beloved mama.
May we all quilt happily ever after...
